I am rearranging things in our home and it was time to get a new something of another but when I started looking at prices of new furniture I got a little bit of sticker shock. Even small love seats of decent quality were running over $800. I begin to think about what a couch really was. It's really just a bunch of wooden boxes attached together, covered with soft stuff and then a skin of fabric.
When I began to think about making my own couch, I considered several different designs. Then one day I came across a business that catered to the kind of people who would choose to build their own couches. I bought a kit from them. It came in the mail in two boxes. Here we are with our quintessential EN couch on the front porch picture- only slightly different.
The Wonderson helped bring the boxes in and we opened them.
All of us worked together to put in the tabs the screws go into then WS and I began following directions and WD (Wonder Daughter) provided the play list and kept the tunes coming.
When you look at the skeleton of this piece you can see what I meant. It's just a series of boxes. This pic has 2 boxes which will be the arms and another box which will be the seat.
I was able to cushion and upholster the arms before we built the last box.
In order to get the cushions to work into the covers easily we had to cover them with a slick fabric. It took a little while to get everything lined up and in place.
Now we have a nice new love seat. Plus the kids are policing themselves about not eating on the couch. This was a nice family project and we made some neat memories.
